I Helped Free a Man From Life Without Parole. Then He Turned on Me.

The story of my relationship with a man serving a life without parole sentence, whom I met long before becoming a lawyer. Over many years I came to consider him a beloved brother.  I believed him to be a good, decent, honorable man who had redeemed himself after committing a brutal crime, and I spent many years fighting for his freedom.  Soon after his release from prison, when I was critically ill and facing death, my "brother" turned his back on me, ghosting me when I needed him the most. Upon my recovery, I learned horrifying facts which revealed that what I thought was a loving family relationship had really been a meticulously calculated, deceitful, and insidious manipulation which had but one purpose: to free himself from prison, and make his life inside as comfortable as possible until that happened.
